Brick garden wall.
This project is located in Campbell town / Palmyra in lebanon county. The wall featured in this photo makes up part of a courtyard at a popular resturaunt. The brick in this wall were recycled from another building. In order to match the original building we needed old clay brick. The only place you can get them is from a building that has been taken down, since they are no longer manufactured. Sometimes finding them can be a challenge. Not to mention that working with them brings it own set of challenges.
On either ends of the wall there is a brick pier topped off with stone. In the center of the wall is a detailed stone sculptures, for lack of a better term. I’m not sure how they were used in their previous setting. It was interesting trying to figure out what to do with them. We tried to fit them in with the rest of the stone work, but that just didn’t look right. No matter where we put them they just didn’t look “natural” or like they fit in. Setting them on a small brick shelf by themselfs seemed to work the best. The full length of the wall is capped with sandstone “points” is what I call them. Except for the piers, they have a flat top about 4 inchs thick that overhangs 2 inchs all the way around. This creates a nice place to set something on top of the pier. The same mortar color that was used to lay the brick wall was also used to point the stone wall.
