Sandstone chimney. Repointed and a new wash.
The stone work on this chimney had a crack that ran from the top down to the flashing on the front side and back. The wash or “cap” had cracked and failed. In addition to that the flashing was no longer functioning properly. So, every time there was a heavy rain the chimney would leak.
So, to make it water tight again. The old wash was removed and replaced with a new one. The old mortar joints were ground out and repointed with new colored mortar. Also, the flashing was caulked. Making the chimney water tight again.
