Stone Wall Collapse.

This wall fell in roughly 20 years ago. My dad and I were working on repointing the inside of this barn when this disaster happened. Fortunatly we were not on the job when it happened. We had left for the day and a delivery driver dumped his load of crushed stone aginst the exterior of the barn. Causing the wall to fall inside of the barn. We arrived the next day to find most of our tool’s and equipment was destroyed / crushed.

After the insurance company was done with their inspections, we got to work on stabilizing the wall. Our first order of business was to install wodden posts to stabalize the structure and, remove all of the wall that had fallen. Then we had to clean the old mortar off of the stone and organize them by size / shape.

After the mess was cleaned up we then had to excavate a trench to pour a footer where the wall used to be. I have to admit that this part of the job was a little nerve racking. After we got the footer poured, we could then lay up those piers you see in the photo to stabilize the wall.
