Brick Reconstruction.
On this job a car had crashed through the front of this building. As a result the brick wall was unstable and had to be removed and rebuilt. When trying to match brick that were made many years ago, often times it can be a challenge. This wall will be painted when it is done, so color was not an issue. My main concern was size and texture. The brick we were able to find were not a perfect match. They had to be sorted through because about half of the brick did not have enough texture to be layed in the wall. However, if the brick were chipped in the right spot. It was possible to modify them, so they had enough texture to be layed.
When trying to get the best match possible its not always clear what needs to be done at the onset of the project. After inspection of the bricks at the brick yard I knew that some of them would be rejected for lack of texture. It wasn’t till they were delivered that I realised it would be about half of them would not work. That was far more than what I had figured would be rejected. So, we needed a new plan or there would not be enough brick. Forunatly adding texture to these brick was not that difficult. It definately added more time to the job than what I had figured. In this case it was not enough of an extra cost to have to raise our price for the job.
When in pursuit of the best match possible it is not always clear exactly what you are going to have to do to achieve that. In my view though, It’s always worth the extra effort. To achieve the best match possible.
